New Zealand’s manufacturing sector experienced a slower rate of expansion in February, according to the latest BNZ – BusinessNZ Performance of Manufacturing Index.

New Zealand’s services sector began 2016 with a solid level of expansion. The PSI for January was 55.4, while this was 3.1 points lower than December it still represented healthy activity in the sector.

Steady state

New Zealand’s manufacturing sector remained in a steady state of expansion. The seasonally adjusted PMI for November was 54.7, 1.5 points higher than October.

2015 Export Survey Findings

The 2015 Exporters Survey was in the field between August and September 2015. There were 205 responses with the majority identifying themselves as manufacturers (49%) with the second biggest category being from the Agriculture, Forestry or Fishing sectors, 15%.

Despite a softer result in October, activity in New Zealand’s services sector continued to show expansion, according to the BNZ – BusinessNZ Performance of Services Index (PSI).

Offshore Boost – PMI

New Zealand’s manufacturing sector continued its expansionary path for October. The seasonally adjusted PMI for October was 53.3, although this was 1.7 points lower than September, the level of expansion was still healthy. The sector has now been in continued expansion since October 2012.
